It's the day when people in this small city unite as one(whether at the National Stadium or in front of the tv) and celebrate another year of peace and harmony.
Other than the high living standards of Singapore, I can't complain much. Food, transport, jobs, education, law, CPF.. everything one can have without realising that all these are made possible because of the pioneers.
The radio just went, " Count on me Singapore, Count on me to give my best and more..." Really reminded me of the primary school days when we will sing all the Singapore songs without finding them lame. Those days, National Day eve was actually a day to look forward as I would be anticipating the souvenir the school had in store for me.
As I grew up, we started to sing to songs softer, afraid that our friends will be glancing over with a "So patriotic meh?" look. No more souvenirs, just national day hall concerts consisting of the standard dances of different races(as usual), a long long speech by the big boss(as usual), and some boring plays.
Luckily for me, I was able to take part in the NDP. It was tiring and felt time wasting to burn every Sunday for practises in the cultural dances for the PA, but come to think of it, it was not so bad. I just treated the practices as another major gathering for friends, and I was able to make lots of new friends. Hehehe.
The feeling was fantastic: running into the stadium under a full crowd and surrounded by cauliflowers of fireworks. It made me feel alive. It made me feel a part of an organization, no worries how big the organization is. Then did I realize that I could feel so important to this world. Sorry, but I wasn't exaggerating.
I have participated in the dances for 3 years and marched in the contingent for a year. And hopefully, I would be able to join in the crowd one of these days again. But I really love it if I could grab hold of the tickets for the National Day. Haha.. so please make it fast, we need the newly built national stadium! :>
