The title doesn't really say it all. Because when I went to Fort Canning Centre for this exhibition last Sunday, I really didn't know what to expect. So, I came to realise that a small organization (likened to an ant), has been trying to change the world (the tree).
First, when I stepped into the exhibition hall, I could see all the posters and information on global warming and how to save the earth. Really had an impact on me as the boards and walls were made of used materials which could be recycled. And showed pictures of big icebergs ages ago and what mankind had done to melt them (with our carbon emission). There was a quote which really stuck on me, at least for that day: BUY WHAT YOU NEED AND NOT WHAT YOU WANT. LIVE SIMPLY SO OTHERS CAN SIMPLY LIVE.
As I moved on, there was a fact on our carbon emission and water. Excessive Carbon dioxide emission and methane gas has been the main reasons to the global warming, and the main culprits is still mankind. Why? Because of the number of vehicles out there on the road and the number of big birds which can sit hundreads on the air. Not to mention the trees cut for making tissue, paper, and burnt for the land needed for grazing of animals. All these contributed to the high CO2 which trap heat, causing warming around the entire globe.
But what fazed me was that the main product that caused this was the food called hamburger. An average car in America emits around 3kg of carbon emission a year. But the carbon footprint for eating hamburgers can be up to 75kg! You can look at the link if you are not convinced enough: http://openthefuture.com/2006/12/the_footprint_of_a_cheeseburge.html. It also talks about cows producing 114kg of methane gas per year. (1kg of methane gas = 23 kg of CO2)
Next, water. I learned that to produce 1lb of beef, 5214 gallons of water is needed for the entire process. That is a lot more than us showering in our bathroom every day for a year. Cows again. Or rather our tongues again.
And livestock has now taken up most of our grain, which in fact can feed up to 1300 million people if not for grazing. 80% of american grown corn goes to feed livestock.
Okay, enough of cows for the day. The next highlight of the exhibition is on our health. Example is something on the misconception of protein needed for our body. Also, realised that wireless, bluetooth, and gadgets like handphones are emitting radiation that can really cause hazards in time to come.
Other than all the talk about the earth and our health, I realised that spiritual health is also taken care of. Especially a part where I was faced with mirrors and masks around me, letting me think for a moment whether I have carried a mask all along in my life, or do I really know the person in the mirror. They have programmes and courses to unlock all these doubts, in the purpose of finding true meaning in life. Hmmm..
So in the end, really benefited me in this fuitful All-In-One exhibition organized by Lapis Lazuli Light. Logon to www.lapislazulilight.com for events to come.
