MAD COWBOY

This is a book on Howard Lyman, who used to be a cattle rancher, transforming his organic farm to one which produces tonnes of beef, in order to make more money. But the more cattle he owned, the more crop(and sometimes cattle themselves) he had to produce to feed them, and this led to the chemical agriculture trend during then to satisfy the soil with artificial fertilizers so that the ultimate goal could be reached: to yield the most beef = money within the shortest time.
But he soon realised that he worked day and night in the farm just to make ends meet, and did not profit much, although the cattle did manifest themselves, and so many processes are needed to keep the new farm system going.
Destruction of natural rainforest, extinction of wildlife species, overgrazing, water pollution and depletion, desertification and global warming are just some of the harmful effects to mother earth contributed by the billions of innocent cattle, and one day to be disected by the fork and knife.
Lyman also blasts through the propaganda of beef and dairy interests - and the government agencies that protect them - to expose an animal-based diet as the primary cause of cancer, heart disease, and obesity in this country. Not to mention the Mad Cow Disease outbreak.

"Howard Lyman is fighting not only for our health but for our nation's sanity as well. He challenges not only mad cows, but a mad system" - Studs Terkel

"Digests the facts in Mad Cowboy, and you may never look at prime rib in the same way again." - Dave Bowman, The Seattle Times

"If you want your grandchildren to live in a chemical free environment, and able to see animals and lakes in their generation, read this book." - guntaobu (anti -http://www.collegesaga.com/ )
